SUMMARY

This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual to leverage their product costing expertise and leadership skills as a Senior Cost Accountant for the Accounting and Finance team, specifically serving the Venice facility.  The successful candidate will join a team committed to manufacturing excellence, continuous improvement and member development. The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for all activities of product costing, product manufacturing analysis and inventory valuations. Develops costings controls and procedures while maintaining the cost accounting system and reporting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Focus on cost and inventory financial analysis at the PGTI Venice location.
  • Along with the Cost Accounting Manager, drive the enhancement of procedures and controls that ensure meaningful and reliable product costs and accurate inventories.
  • Develop cost standards for materials and labor.
  • Perform month-end cost and inventory accounting close, including the posting of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with Budget preparation for standard costing.
  • Prepare weekly inventory, manufacturing variance, and purchase price variance reports and analyze findings.
  • Responsible for pulling support for all inventory / COGS audit requests (internal and external).
  • Partner with Materials Management, Manufacturing, and Inventory Control to lead quarterly physical inventories. Responsible for all inventory variance analysis related to physical inventory and the posting of all results to the general ledger.
  • Understand all plant business processes and the impact on cost reporting. Involved in all accounting decisions related to plant transactions
  • Research and resolve all general ledger and inventory discrepancies by coordinating with IT, warehouse, and other system owners.
  • Partner with the Inventory Control Manager to identify and correct BOM issues.
  • Lead annual standard costs update.
  • Work with team members to create and continuously improve management reporting and performance metrics.  Assist members in understanding how they can affect financial results.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • BA/BS in Accounting/ Finance
  • 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent Excel skills required. Extensive experience with other Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Access, etc.) is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience with an ERP system, Frontier preferred.
  • Demonstrate analytical, organizational and project management skills.
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to make decisions required.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects.

LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Possess verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills to support liaising with various functional levels.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Demonstrate analytical skills.
  • Ability to control budgeted expenditures allocated to this position.
  • Ability to communicate inventory and scrap performance metrics.

  • Usual office environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing.
  • Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enabling the use of office machinery.
  • Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as telephone.
  • Must be able to visually inspect inventory in the plants and warehouses.
  • Frequent need to be in plant environment, where noise levels are high. Physically able to lift 40 to 60 lbs.
  • Consistent daily attendance required to monitor inventory accuracy.
  • Work in both air-conditioned office environment and non air-conditioned plant environment.
  • Must be able to move freely and navigate through production floor.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to travel occasionally domestically.

Occasional: activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
